About Fremont, California

Located in the southeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, Fremont has a growing population of around 240,000. It is one of the largest cities by land area and the fourth most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area and California’s 15th largest city.

Incorporated on January 23, 1956, the city is named after John C. Frémont, an American explorer and former US Senator and Military Governor of California. The area consisting of Fremont and the cities of Newark and Union City is known collectively as the Tri-City Area; different from the adjacent Tri-Valley area encompassing Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore.

The city of Fremont may not be one of the best known areas of California, but it was actually one of the most influential in the development of Hollywood. The reason for this is that Fremont was actually the first community in California to start to shoot and produce movies, and while other areas soon took over and became more famous, it is fair to say that it all started in this unassuming town.

As one of the founding cities in the area, Fremont has a whole host of historic gems to uncover, such as museums, landmarks, and period buildings that still stand proud to this day.
