About Indio, California

Indio is a city in Riverside County located in the Coachella Valley of Southern California’s Colorado Desert region. The word Indio is Spanish for Indian. According to the 2010 census, the city has a population of 76,036.

Set in the picturesque Coachella Valley, Indio boasts spectacular panoramas with distant foothills, soft blue skies, and easy access to phenomenal golf courses and other outdoor activities. Known as the “City of Festivals”, Indio has annual festivals that celebrate Native American culture, hot air ballooning, art, and food. Popular Indio festivals include the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival in February, The Coachella Valley Stagecoach Country Festival in April, and the Indio International Tamale Festival in December. The City is also home to the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, which has 2,000 slots and video poker and 40 table games, including bingo.

The City of Indio is one of the fastest growing cities in the area. This small, yet bustling city is perhaps best known for being host to the popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which draws in as many as 250,000 visitors a year.
