Bakersfield is a charter city in Kern County, California. It is the county seat and largest city of the county. The City was founded along the Los Angeles and Stockton road in 1869 by Thomas Baker, who reclaimed swamplands along the nearby Kern River. It has a population of 347,483 according to the 2010 U.S. Census making it the 52nd-most populous city in the United States of America and the 9th-most populous city in California.
