About Hermosa Beach, California

Hermosa Beach is a beachfront city with a population of 19,506 at the 2010 U.S. Census. The city’s name was derived from the Spanish word “Hermosa” which means beautiful.

The City belongs to the three Beach Cities. It is centered on the Hermosa Pier where the highest density of visitors are. The Hermosa Beach Pier is at the end of Pier Avenue, which is one of the beach community’s main shopping, dining and entertainment areas.

Hermosa Beach has almost 2 miles of ocean frontage with 94 acres of public beach and is one of the most popular beaches in Los Angeles County due to the excellent surf, good swimming areas, and the various volleyball nets along the sand. Volleyball tournaments and surf festivals also take place throughout the year for visitors and residents to enjoy. Surfers enjoy the milder waves that roll in at Hermosa Beach, one of several cities that are considered the birthplace of surfing in California.
