About Napa, California

Napa is the largest city and the county seat of Napa County. As the principal city of the Napa County Metropolitan Statistical Area, it has a population of 76,915 as of the 2010 census. Incorporated in 1872, Napa is the second-largest city in California’s Wine Country.

The name “Napa” was most likely derived from the name given to a southern Nappan village whose native people shared the area with elk, deer, grizzlies and cougars for many centuries, according to Napa historian Kami Santiago. At the time of the first recorded exploration into Napa Valley in 1823, the majority of the inhabitants consisted of Native American Indians.

The City of Napa offers an impressive variety of food and activities. People can enjoy the blend of urban activity, interactive street art, food trucks, and vibrant night life, combined with quaint Napa Valley character – a quiet river walk, hidden tasting rooms, and a lively farmers’ market.
