About South El Monte, California

South El Monte is a city located in the San Gabriel Valley with a population of 20,116 as of the 2010 census.

Incorporated on July 30, 1958, the city was made up of a largely Mexican community. Throughout the early years after South El Monte’s incorporation, the city, through community efforts, won various national awards, including the “All America City” award in 1975. And eventually, the city took on the nickname “The City of Achievement” for its early successes in civil efforts, despite having a high crime and high school dropout rate at the time.
